Denominational Involvement
Change ripples though our association, and the need for our congregations to communicate and be in relationship with one another is all the more vital. As a member of the General Assembly Planning Committee from 2015-2019, I participated in pulling together the largest yearly gathering of UUs. We will be in Pittsburg (and online) this year - I hope you can join us!
One of the most important - and sometimes most challenging - aspects of who we are as Unitarian Universalists is our congregational polity. Our form of polity comes from before the foundation of this country, the Cambridge Platform of 1648, and calls us to be in the relationship, in covenant with one another, not only as individuals but also as congregations. We can sometimes forget that latter part. When we forget we are in covenant with other congregations and a larger denomination, we lose the potential we have to grow together, to fight injustice, and to create a home for others in this world. When we work together and work with the larger community, we support and strengthen one another toward the growth of our ideas and ideals.
Partnerships with other organizations are important to our work and to our future. Wherever I am called to serve a congregation, I will work to develop connections to UU organizations and other religious groups. It is in working together with one another that we can best influence the future.
